Grandma and Grandpa observed Noah’s YMCA Sports Play Day and participated in a basketball shoot-around, so to speak, afterward while Micah was elsewhere for her piano lesson. Noah started out with stretching, then throwing a football and flag tag during class then a free period of throwing the ball for a basket to a VERY high hoop over and over, never giving up, just trying and trying, just enjoying himself in the attempts. He’s auditioning to become Rap #2 as Rap #1 (HTR) demonstrated that he could still swish the ball from all areas of the court. The last photo in the gym shows Gramp about to high five Noah for his first basket made. Noah was very excited with his first ! one. The children never stood still for the entire time – always active – and the blurry photos attest to that.
A wonderful restaurant here is called Soup Plantation with a large salad bar, homemade soup, pizza, mac and cheese with homemade bread, muffins and dessert and was the site of our delicious dinner. Kurt and Noah amused themselves by playing “take away”. For instance, Noah would say, “Dad, give me a take away question.” And Kurt would say, “What is 33 take away 4?” And Noah would quickly return an answer of 29. Various such challenges convinced me that he has a firm grasp on number concepts at five years old. And it reminded me of our family’s dinner times long ago when Harry, Kurt and Karen would play just such and later, more complicated number games, during the meal.
Another great day especially because it ended with my FINALLY getting online to update the blog while at Kurt and Shigemi’s after having difficulty with doing so at our hotel for the past two or three days.
