A visit to the Coal Oil Point Reserve (near Santa Barbara)
This bluff is a great vantage point to view migrating gray whales. A mother and baby were sighted by the experts today while we were there. They are taking an inventory throughout the season which is winding down now. The whales are very difficult to see so we, with our small binoculars didn't spot them. But it was exciting to think that we might have seen them.
The beach is a protected area for Snowy Plovers to use for nesting in the center of the panoramic picture below. There are very few nests there now. There was a lot of sand lost from the beach during winter winds and storms.
A surfer is framed by the majestic driftwood. (He's that dot just past the breaking surf.)
After enjoying our walk and the magnificent ocean views we had a great lunch at the Natural Cafe in Goleta. Judy had a fresh squeezed veggie juice that was definitely not coveted by my other companions. They just don't know what's good. It was DE......licious and so full of anti-oxidants and vitamins.
