The snowy egrets are nesting and displaying their feathery plumage in the trees right outside our hotel room. They make the strangest barking squawks that sound a bit like a dog barking. We love to hear and watch them.
While Harry played golf this afternoon I visited the Flower Fields that grow and harvest Ranunculus bulbs each year (approximately 6 to 8 million) for distribution throughout the U.S. They're, they say, probably the least known and hardest to spell flower for the average American. Before being selectively bred they used to consist of just a couple of colors and single blossoms. Over the years improvements have been made and they are now found in sixteen different colors with double blossoms that are very beautiful - rather like a peony but different.
Antique tractors pulled wagons for those who wanted a ride to the top of the hill in the fields where I debarked and walked back to the beginning enjoying the view of the field, ocean expanse and individual flowers. They also had a sweet pea maze for the children and more adventurous adults, a rose garden with all the annual winners of best rose varieties since the award has been given and an artist's garden with many annuals arranged with regard to color.
