March 29, 2010 Harry squeezed in a golf round at a wonderful Indian Canyon Resort Club where he enjoyed the wonderful surroundings, the glorious Palm Springs air and sunshine… … the putting, …not so much…..
As we said good-bye to Palm Springs for another year (too short a visit this year for sure – love it there for the warm temps and desert scenery among the things to do there, of course) and as we traveled the freeways into LA, were able to sail by hundreds, if not thousands of cars as we cruised the carpool (HOV) lanes.
Arrived at our hotel for the stay in LA to find a spacious room with a wonderful garden in the courtyard adjoining our room.
Had a reunion with our kids and grandkids with dinner at Macaroni Grill where they, along with most restaurants in CA, due to a new law, list the calorie count, sodium content and fat grams of all the dishes on the menu. That is some scary reading for those of us who care about such things. It has resulted, though, in changes to their menu to include more veggies, for instance, instead of high fat carb side dishes and most of us made a different choice than we might have if the figures hadn’t been there at hand. There were definite surprises in what had a high calorie count, such as Parmesan encrusted tilapia, which might be a good choice, right? - with over 1700 calories in a dinner serving, as I recall but the dishes we chose had less than 600. They don’t hide the truth either, including everything that is served with that menu item.
