Visited the California Sciencenter to experience the IMAX movie, "Hubble" and the new exhibit entitled, "Ecosystems" Both were excellent and made for a wonderful afternoon of fun and education.
Micah and Noah lifted a truck for their first trick of the afternoon (with the help of the advantage of a fulcrum arrangement.) That's them pulling on the rope in the foreground. The red truck is in the background and it's a bit hard to see in this photo but all four wheels are off the ground.
The photos taken from the Hubble Telescope were amazing, spectacular, unbelievable and all sorts of other adjectives. If you ever have the opportunity to see it, grab it. Well, well worth it.
Noah enjoyed the speaking tube, imagining a snowmobile ride and many of the other hands on exhibits that illustrated the relationships of all the ecosystems of earth such as deserts, kelp forests and decompostion or rot as they called it.
A wall of ice was VERY cold and was used to illustrate the insulation properties of various materials in the mitts filled with fur or polar fleece or feathers or cotton.
A school of sardines in the kelp forest swirled and danced to our amazement.
A tall tube that was filled with water as Noah pumped illustrated the pressure exerted under the sea as a rubber bladder pressed down on Grandma's hand to where she was unable to remove it from the device. Didn't hurt though.
One amazing demonstration of the pressure in the depth of the sea is illustrated here. A styrofoam head and cup as shown here was sent down 1 1/2 miles under the surface of the sea. The pressure down there squeezed most of the air out of them until they were reduced greatly in size. Not a friendly place for humans for sure.
