Saving Energy and Resources

April 9 and 11, 2010
While visiting the Long Beach Aquarium and the California Sciencenter, we noticed definite encouragement to practice recycling, handwashing and save resources with various displays, innovations and many signs. The most innovative seemed to me the water saving flush on some of the 'water closets' and the built in step stools for the children's use in washing after using the lavatory

Bright and colorful signs encourage recycling of plastics particularly at the Aquarium

IItems removed from a landfill after being there 15 years supposedly decaying were still nearly the same as when they were buried. Especially notable was the newspaper that could still be read and was relatively intact.

Try to use less...........

These triangular plexiglas tubes holding the paper or plastic were about 10 feet tall and at least
2 feet on a side so held a lot of material.
